MyHCC Email and Messaging

The implementation of HawkMail 365 and the sun-setting of Campus Cruiser is the impetus for enabling the Blackboard email tool. The email tool within Blackboard acts as a relay server sending the email messages to the email address that is present in the student's Blackboard user profile.

For more information on how to use the Email and Messages tools within Blackboard reference the PDF document from CITT:  http://citt.hccfl.edu/Files/emailMessaging.pdf

Additional instructions can be found on the Blackboard Help site: https://help.blackboard.com/en-us/Learn/9.1_SP_10_and_SP_11/Instructor/050_Course_Tools/Email

Help for students can also be found on the Blackboard Help site: https://help.blackboard.com/en-us/Learn/9.1_SP_10_and_SP_11/Student/040_Tools/Email

1 User name & 1 Password!

The Office of Information Technology  is excited to bring streamlined changes to login credentials for employees and students

On Monday, July 22, 2013 we will be implementing changes to the Colleague (Datatel) and WebAdvisor systems that will enable employees to use NetID to access these systems.

Remember that your NetID is the User ID and password that you currently use to log on to your computer.   This means that you will have ONE User ID and password to access:
  • Your Computer
  • Colleague (Datatel) If you currently have access (This is to be implemented in the Fall semester)
  • Web Adviser
  • Outlook (Web/Mobile Devices)
  •  VPN

Finally, users will be able to stop using cheat sheets hidden in drawers or under keyboards!

Changes for Students

In addition to the above changes for employees, Students as well will benefit from several changes as well.  The systems that they use as well will benefit from the NetID.  While MyHCC and Smarthinking have been using the NetID for a while, also starting on Monday, July 22, 2013, students will be able to access WebAdvisor and the new email system Office 365 with their NetID.

Microsoft's Office 365 is the replacement for the Campus Cruiser email system.

Along with these changes, we are updating the appearance of the Hawk Net page (http://www.hccfl.edu/hawknet.aspx).   All existing links will still remain available from this page, but we are implementing a new mobile-friendly and ADA compliant look.

Please keep in mind that these changes are significant and every effort has been made to implement this as smoothly as possible.

If you have any issues accessing Datatel or WebAdvisor, please contact HCCLive (http://hcclive.hccfl.edu)  and create a ticket, advising them that you are having difficulties accessing these services using your NetID so that they can escalate these tickets appropriately.

Course Availability Settings

Please note the Course Availability settings have changed with the  service pack update in May. If you have not set your course availability to continuous, students will only be able to access the course from the listed start date through the listed end date of the section. For instructions on how to change the course availability settings please refer to this PDF document on the CITT website.

Exported and Archived Files > 60 days to be Deleted from MyHCC

Exported and Archived files that still reside in courses on the MyHCC servers will be deleted if they more than 60 days old. This is a performance related issue and must be done on a regular basis. If you have archived or exported files within your courses that you wish to keep, please downloaded them to your desktop or other storage device.

The files will be removed this Saturday, June 29th at 2 am during the system maintenance.

Note: We are not removing previous semesters courses from the server. Those courses will still be retained until the Course Removal and Deletion process occurs in October 2013. We will communicate with faculty the dates when the removal of courses will take place. Please refer to the document link above if you have questions regarding this process.

Discussion Board Replies within HTML Tags

Discussion board replies within HTML tags are not displayed.
Steps to Repeat:
  1. Enter course.
  2. Creating a new thread with tags inserted at the end of the submission in the HTML editor.
  3. Attempt to reply.
Expected Result:
The reply text is displayed.

Observed Result:
The reply is not displayed.
Symptoms: The display issue (body of reply not showing) occurs because the body of the reply is rendered within the DIV of class dbParentPost, i.e. within the hidden original post that forms part of each reply. As that entire DIV is hidden, the response body is hidden too.
Target Release: 9.1 SP15 ( Blackboard is working on a patch to resolve this issue that should be available before we upgrade to service pack 15)

Course Copy Does Not Copy Images

Course Copy Does Not Copy Images in Question Pools

This issue effects Blackboard Learn 9.1 Service Pack 11, which HCC upgraded to in May 2013.

Images attached to questions in a questions pool are not transferred to the new course after a course copy. The questions in the new course contain links to the images in the original course, so if the original course is deleted, the links are broken. There are no errors in the course copy log reporting this.

Blackboard reports this will be fixed in a building block upgrade, thus not requiring any downtime, however they do not report when this updated building block will be released.

Update to Service Pack 10 & 11

We are currently on track to update MyHCC to service packs 10 and 11 on May 9th - May 11th.

Several existing features have been improved and some exciting new features added to make your day more efficient. Here is an overview of tools that you can expect to be using soon:

  •  New Content Editor: The new Content Editor vastly improves the user experience for formatting text, pasting content from Microsoft Word, and adding content to all areas of Learn. Blackboard has also replaced the old     math editor with a new mathML equation editor.

  •  Assessment Item Analysis: Now you can easily refine your assessments by evaluating the quality of each question and that question’s ability to discriminate between students who understand the material and those who do not.  Ineffective questions can easily be identified and then quickly corrected with the Automatic Regrade feature.

  • My Blackboard: This feature introduces a new, modern user experience in Blackboard Learn that consolidates critical information from all your Courses and Organizations as well as your school-wide academic network.  The new tools in My Blackboard – Profile, Posts, Updates, My Grades, and People – were developed to meet the needs of today’s active learner and enhance student engagement. My Blackboard allows you to easily monitor activity across your courses. You can be confident that your students are up-to-date and engaged in the online learning experience.

  • New Global Navigation Menu: Always present in the top right corner, the new navigation menu is the entry point to My Blackboard and also provides one-click access to your Courses, Settings, and Blackboard Help.  Additionally, the new menu will tell you how many items in My Blackboard are new or need your attention, so you never miss a thing.
